The Week in profile: 21-31 May

As one would expect, little is now happening in the region, especially in terms of migration. Dave Bilcock had a Ringed Plover at Wilstone on Saturday and on Sunday and Monday, a summer-plumaged SANDERLING graced Pitstone Quarry. A pair of SPOTTED FLYCATCHERS have set up territory in the woodyard and Ash trees near the overflow on Startop's End Reservoir.

Further afield, Pitstone Common is awash with Small Blues and other butterflies...

Here is a selection of my recent images from the area......

A bumper crop of COMMON BLUES at Pitstone - 179 counted

Likewise, an abundance of SMALL BLUES, with at least 212...

53+ SMALL HEATH

GREEN HAIRSTREAKS on Hawthorn at Pitstone

For the first time ever, GREY HERONS have built a nest on Tringford...

We have 17 HOUSE MARTIN nests in total on the Canal

SANDERLING in Pitstone Quarry(which remained overnight)

YELLOW WAGTAIL in the Quarry (my first); a pair are also nesting in the vicinity of Wilstone Reservoir
