A big day locally with COLLEGE LAKE BBOWT scoring heavily. First off a flock of 10 COMMON SCOTER dropped in under the grey skies at 1123 hours, followed by an immature female MARSH HARRIER through to the east, then an OSPREY and a Eurasian Sparrowhawk. A pair of LITTLE RINGED PLOVERS displaying in front of the Octagon Hide, with 8 Common Redshank and the 2 Oystercatchers, 4 lingering Wigeon, 10 Shoveler and a pair of Teal
Not much throughout the day at TRING RESERVOIRS but this evening at STARTOP'S, a first-summer LITTLE GULL, 20 BARN SWALLOWS and 120 SAND MARTIN dropped down
On the IVINGHOE HILLS, a male RING OUZEL was on the north slope of Gallows Hill

Steve Rodwell watched 3 SANDWICH TERNS appear out of the gloom and murk of the early morning and they literally flew straight through Wilstone without stopping (at just after 7am)

LITTLE GULLS
A party of 3 LITTLE GULLS was present at Wilstone Reservoir this evening before
they suddenly gained height at 1907 hours and flew strongly east into
Buckinghamshire (last followed increasing height towards Ivinghoe Beacon before
being lost to view) (Ian Williams, Steve Rodwell, LGRE and David Bilcock)

BLACK-NECKED GREBES
A party of 3 BLACK-NECKED GREBES was present on Wilstone this evening
(Steve Rodwell et al), following a weekend that highlighted with an adult LITTLE
GULL (SR); migrants include 2 different Willow Warblers, numerous Common
Chiffchaff and 35 Sand Martins - a female RING OUZEL was reported from Steps
Hill where 240+ Fieldfare remain

SAND MARTINS galore
The highlight today was the presence of at least 80 SAND MARTINS over
Wilstone (Ian Williams, LGRE, et al), while at least 1 WATER PIPIT was still
lingering.
Nearby, up to 7 NORTHERN WHEATEARS were on the SE slopes of the Beacon (IW
et al)
