Probably the rarest bird to have ever graced College Lake and where was I - away as usual!!

On Bank Holiday Monday, as I was trying to find my group a Crested Tit at Loch Mallachie, I heard the incredulous news that COLLEGE LAKE volunteers had discovered a LESSER YELLOWLEGS - the first ever record for the area and only the second in Buckinghamshire following a juvenile at Denham from 15 October to 5 November 1977. Francis Buckle confirmed the id mid morning and the bird remained present throughout the day, despite being constantly harangued by breeding Common Redshanks. David Hutchinson obtained this nice set of images. What a bird to miss - typical!! According to the warden, some 95 twitchers connected by 4.30pm...
