LITTLE EGRETS continue to increase, with at least four, perhaps five present today (all photographs by kind courtesy of Francis Buckle)



WEDNESDAY 10 SEPTEMBER

After dipping my third Berkshire Northern Gannet in as many years (it flew off WNW from Dinton Pastures CP the second I arrived in the car park), I commiserated myself with a late evening visit to Wilstone Reservoir.

(1845-1935 hours; with IW; strong SW wind blowing, with overcast skies but mild temperatures)

Great Crested Grebe - 19 still
Little Grebe - 6
Sinensis Cormorant - 29 roosting
LITTLE EGRET - at least 4 present, possibly five (see Francis Buckle's superb images above)
Mute Swan - decrease to 47 birds
WHOOPER SWAN - pair still present
Common Teal - 228+
Gadwall - 31+
Eurasian Wigeon - 5
Northern Shoveler - 71
NORTHERN PINTAIL - now increased to 7 birds (LGRE, IW)
Tufted Duck - 93
Northern Pochard - 19
RUDDY DUCK - 5 again present

Common Kestrel - pair near car park
HOBBY - 1+

Lapwing - 296
COMMON GREENSHANK - 3 juveniles remaining
COMMON SANDPIPER - 1 still (IW)
Lesser Black-backed Gulls - 15 on central spit

House Martins - 60+
Barn Swallows - 15
YELLOW WAGTAIL - 1 flew west (LGRE)
SPOTTED FLYCATCHER - 1 remains in the hedge by the new overflow
Long-tailed Tits - 10 in hedgerow
