WILSTONE RESERVOIR

Undoubted highlight was an adult winter SPOTTED REDSHANK that remained all day (see photographs above) - the second to be recorded on Wilstone Reservoir this year.

(0730-0800; with Steve Rodwell; fleeting visit)

An adult winter SPOTTED REDSHANK was heard then seen by Dave Bilcock and Roy Hargreaves at 0645 hours, feeding on the spit directly opposite the car park steps. It was still present there at 0700 hours when both observers left for work. Steve Rodwell arrived shortly later (but without mobile) and then LGRE, both observers enjoying excellent 'scope views as it roosted with Lapwings on a muddy island to the left of the hide until at least 0800 hours. It was then seen by JT, and then later in the morning by Francis Buckle and Mike Collard, the latter two observers both obtaining images of the bird from the new overflow.

(1730-1800 hours)

The SPOTTED REDSHANK was still present, but feeding on the mud in the SW corner and viewable very distantly from the Drayton Bank Hide.

NORTHERN PINTAIL - at least 4 present
