FRIDAY 19 AUGUST
A much better day following yesterday's deluge of rain; bright and sunny throughout the morning, fairly warm and a return to SW winds........
IVINGHOE HILLS NATURE RESERVE (BUCKS)
The heavy rain obviously grounded a few migrants at the Beacon overnight with a small party of 5 WHINCHATS (adult and four juveniles) on the SE slope beneath the trig point, commuting between the upper fence line and the extensive weedy area, and 2 LESSER WHITETHROATS in bushes by the S-bend.
LINNETS have had an exceptional breeding season with a post-breeding flock of no less than 260 birds in the weedy field east of the sheep field, the vast majority juvenile birds. There were also 33 Skylarks present in the same field
Nearby, 3 YELLOW-LEGGED GULLS were present in stubble fields below Steps Hill
Very quiet at the reservoirs with nothing new in, despite the recent weather
